Dusnee Thai Spa

Have you heard the saying “If evolution really works, how come mothers only have two hands?” ~Milton Berle? ;-)

Well, it is Saturday. This is a day that every busy mom looks forward to. The day when we can take a break, hopefully, from our hectic mommy schedule and finally enjoy some “me” time. Well, for me today, it is only a virtual “me” time as I ponder over my latest spa experience. I decided to share with you some amazing organic spas I visited in the city recently. For us who want to be eco-conscious, yet still want to look pampered and fabulous, this is the ultimate 5:

Spa Ja – Treat yourself to an amazing treatment at Spa Ja’s. I had the pleasure of visiting Spa Ja on one breezy day earlier this year. The spa uses only natural treatments and organic products which appealed to me. The exterior of the building is very interesting and uniquely finished in black and red colors. Upon entering the spa I was greeted with hot berry tea, nuts and organic cookies, and scented towels. The amazing facial was done by professional staff, who, I was told, continuously work on improving their skills and learning new techniques. I will be going back for sure for another facial and to try their body wrap treatment!

Dusnee Thai Spa – What if I told you about a place in Upper East Manhattan where you could get a milk-honey pedicure that uses only biodegradable products that are 100% natural? Your feet will be soaked with a honey infused milk, followed by a sea salt exfoliation then hydrated with a butter cream, followed by conditioning with a milk and honey complex oil. The polish of your choice is vegan and has no DBP or formaldehyde in it. The best part is you could get all this for only $22 if you purchase it on Lifebooker in the next two days. WOW!!! The place is definitely amazing and clean with staff so welcoming and unassuming. Love this spa!!!

Shobha – Whenever I need a quick eyebrow shaping this is the place to go to. While a bit more expensive then others, I love how professional their staff and clean the place is. On their web presentation they claim to use only “the safest ingredients, avoiding all things toxic & unhealthy.” Their specialists wear pink non-latex gloves, and their policy is no double-dip, meaning the same spatula will never be re-dipped into the wax. You can expect to get complimentary tea and some relaxing vibes. :)

Mama Spa – A very pleasant place in Lower East Side, I visited Mama Spa to get a deep therapeutic massage. Before the massage I was offered green tea and to spend some time in a steam room or sauna, whatever I chose to do. The massage was incredible, and I felt amazing afterwords. I was never rushed, the staff was very sweet and accommodating and at the end of my session I was offered a refreshing squeezed orange juice. They also have the typical spa offers such as manicures/pedicures, facials etc. I haven’t tried those. They use all natural and organic ingredients. A really pleasurable place, I invite you to visit it when in that part of Manhattan.

While having your nails pampered at Karma Organic in Ridgewood, NJ, check out their non-toxic nail polish line. Truthfully, I haven’t tried their products yet so cannot review them, but Karma’s nail polish was featured on NBC’s Ask Melissa as one of the top 10 lifestyle picks for 2010., and seems to be a nice healthy alternative to extremely toxic nail polishes which usually contain DBP and Formaldehyde.

Do you know of a chemical-free nail polish worth suggesting to my readers? Please let me know and I’ll be glad to include it in my list.

Till then, keep it pure! :)

Update: I was contacted by a friend of mine who suggested Priti NYC non-toxic nail polish line. Priti Polishes do not contain Toluene, DBP or Formaldehyde. The Environmental Working Group’s database has found all three of these ingredients to be very toxic, and links them to cancer.

  1. Priti NYC is a good one but I also really like SpaRitual- great smelling nail polish remover, good colors, and no nasties. I’ve heard that Zoya had a good nail polish remover but I’ve never tried it.
